The first step in obtaining your beautiful smile is an examination and consultation with our office. This first visit typically takes approximately 45 minutes. We will take digital photographs, digital radiographs (if needed), and possibly a "digital impression" of your teeth. Dr. Murphy will evaluate your temporo-mandibular joint (TM Joint or jaw joint), teeth and soft tissues to determine if there are any abnormalities. He will also take detailed orthodontic measurements. The first visit will conclude with a discussion about our findings and treatment recommendations. Please take advantage of this visit to ask any questions or express any concerns you may have.
Obtaining the best orthodontic results is a cooperative effort between our office, you, and your general dentist. We encourage you to continue to regularly see your general dentist while undergoing orthodontic treatment. Your dentist may recommend sealants for your teeth and they may also recommend more frequent preventive visits. Your cooperation with treatment is also vital to achieving the best treatment outcome. This cooperation may include use of elastics or other removable appliances. It also includes maintaining good oral hygiene; proper brushing and regular flossing is crucial.
We want to help you obtain a healthy, confident, beautiful smile. Please do not allow poor oral hygiene to detract from your result!
